Baylee Akins

The same-sex affair between Ian and Mickey in Shameless (U.S.) is broadcast on television and subscription sites alike. It’s directed by Mimi Leder, John Wells III, John Dahl, David Nutter, and Mark Mylod. It was created by Paul Abbott, and produced by Michael Hissrich and Terri Murphy (T. [n.d.])
I chose to examine Mickey and Ian’s relationship because it has a tragically pretty quality to it, and has so many different variables deeply interested that I thought it would make for a good investigation. Both Ian and Mickey acquire many life experiences and struggles that simultaneously make up their intersectionality, and also affect their romantic relationships.

Mickey Milkovich: A Personality Analysis of Shameless’ Top Piece of Southside Trash

Spoiler Warning: This article discusses events in Shameless head up to the Season 7 finale.

“Kiss me and I’ll cut your fucking tongue out,” is what Mickey Milkovich (Noel Fisher) says to Ian Gallagher (Cameron Monaghan) after their first sexual meeting in season 1, episode 7 of Shameless, which reveals that Mickey is gay. It is this line that he says after Ian tries to kiss him that epitomizes who Mickey is, at least in the inception of the series.

He seems to have no qualms about using his fists, as he is frequently shown fighting various different people throughout the series. So of course, I automatically assumed he would be the typical bully nature, meant to be a thorn in the lovely Ian Gallagher’s side. Visualize my surprise when he was revealed to be, in fact, gay and attracted to Ian.

In a lot of shows I’ve watched, male characters who are in the closet tend to be tough bullies because they are self co

Profession… high school trainee and convenience store clerk. Ian is a member of JROTC at his high school, an extracurricular that he hopes will expect push him into West Point.

Interests... exploring his sexuality and trying to stand out of trouble. Ian is the most level-headed of the Gallaghers, but that’s not saying much. As a closeted gay bloke, Ian has to explore his budding sexuality in private – something that’s easier said than done, and a consistent source of Ian’s problems.

Relationship Status... in an affair with his married boss, Kash. Kash owns the convenience store where Ian works, but as the husband of a devout Muslim woman, he’s terrified that their affair may come to light. Ian is putting mounting pressure on Kash to come out to his wife, which has started to put a strain on their childish, secret relationship.

Challenge… finding peace and his place in the world. While he’s extremely close to Lip, Ian is not particularly termination to his other siblings, and feels out of place in the Gallagher
