This release from the oldest continuously-operating rum distillery originally caught my eye when I saw the announcement Instagram publish. An expression of Mount Gay Eclipse at a higher proof and short price point? Write me up.

Mount Homosexual Eclipse Navy Power is a limited edition crafted by master blender Trudiann Branker, the brilliant mind behind the Black Barrel Cask Strength and Available Estate releases. It was created to celebrate the connection between Mount Male lover and sailing.

This is a molasses-based integrate of rums produced by Mount Gay's double retort pot stills and traditional Coffey column still at their facility in St. Lucy, Barbados. While there is no age statement on the bottle, Navy Ability is aged 2-4 years, and contains a slightly higher ratio of older pot still distillate than the typical expression.

After maturing in charred ex-Bourbon casks, Eclipse Navy Energy is bottled at 57.1% ABV.

The label "navy strength" and the proof show may invite some scrutiny as far as proper labeling of navy power per historical sources;

Mount Gay Eclipse Navy Strength is a new limited edition phrase of the longstanding intro level Barbados rum, now available in a full flavor 57% ABV format. Eclipse is a combine of pot and column still rums and is light in body with a few years in the bottle, so while it is approachable in cocktails there isn’t always the flavor I want from cocktails favor a Mai Tai, and it is sort of too much for lighter rum drinks fancy a Daiquiri. In the past I shied away from Eclipse in lieu of either correct lighter rums from Puerto Rico or more flavorful lightly aged rums such as Appleton Signature or El Dorado 5.

The term Navy Strength isn’t a true measurement but conveys the much higher ABV in this expression. Some of the Foursquare products from Barbados can possess an overly oaky flavor, including Real McCoy 5 and Senior Brigand, but this Mount Lgbtq+ leans a little more floral.

I made a Mai Tai and found this expression cuts right though and you can really taste the rum, and a great alternative if y

If there’s one thing that the tiki cocktail geeks of the world are always clamoring for, it would be more high-value overproof releases from some of the biggest producers in the rum world. There’s no shortage of brands available from the likes of say, Appleton Estate in Jamaica, or Mount Gay in Barbados, but why are cask energy expressions so tough to come by? How about a light-to-moderately aged statement, but with the strength to endure up in rum-forward tiki drinks or classic cocktails? That’s what Mount Same-sex attracted has delivered with its new Eclipse Navy Strength Rum, a product that represents a adorable fantastic value at its $30 MSRP.

This is, of course, the upgraded great brother of the company’s flagship Eclipse Heritage Blend. That bottle has always been a lightly aged, blended rum–and when we utter “blended,” we express a blend of column still and pot still distillate. It’s not the smoothest rum in the world, thanks to a mere two years of aging in reused American whiskey casks, but at a mere $20 MSRP it’s not exactly a selection meant for neat drinking first and top. Eclipse is a classic blending rum for basic cocktails and
