Congrats to the happy couple!

As a young teen discovering my sexuality in the preliminary 2000’s, I vividly remember sitting at my bulky desktop computer and searching for masculine shirtless content on the internet. For the most part, I was incredibly sheltered and didn’t dare to search for gay porn until a few years later. However, at the time, a ton of alternative websites were hyping up this emerging actor named Matt Dallas; the luminary of a unused ABC Family series titled ‘Kyle XY’.

If you were alive at the hour, you probably recall the viral publicity stills of Dallas showing off his washboard abs and lack of bellybutton (because his ethics on the present was an alien… or something). This time capsule in pop culture history embedded in my memory 15 years later, so I wondered – what is Matt Dallas up to today?

‘Kyle XY’ ran for three seasons, between 2006 and 2009, until it was surprise cancelled due to “low ratings.” Although never expressed or confirmed, queer men at the time were already believing that Matt Dallas was a member of the LGBT community; even jokingly referring to him as Kyle KY. In 2016, Dallas came out in a YouTube video that also debu

Matt Dallas, the former Kyle XY star, and husband, musician Blue Hamilton, contain welcomed their first child, a 2-year-old son named Crow. The gay parents, who married July 2015, announced the news of their adoption via a video posted to YouTube.

Before introducing their son on camera, the couple explained their thought process behind opting for adoption rather than surrogacy.

“We’ve been talking about having kids for a drawn-out time—we both come from enormous families. Family is very significant to both of us; raising a family of our retain is very important to us,” Hamilton, 36, explains. “So it was just a matter of when, timing-wise, and how. Of course there was surrogacy, you can have your own [biological] kid, private adoption.”

He continues, “At first it was kind of overwhelming. We’d spend nights as we were going to bed on our iPads reading about different ways… After spending some time researching, it seemed organic that we would go through the state.”

Adds Dallas, “There were just a lot of kids that really needed homes. There’s kids and babies waking up in office build

Whatever happened to Matt Dallas?

For starters, he’s starring in Shoulder Dance (2023), an LGBTQ comedy / drama / romance movie, and has a smaller role in another film, Every Breath She Takes (2023 thriller / drama), capping a four-year dry spell that began in 2019. Both films can be streamed on Prime Video.

Even so, he’s still best known for his lead role in 3 seasons of Kyle XY (American Family network 2006-2009, 43 episodes, sci-fi / fantasy / drama). He played the title role of a test tube baby born without a belly button. He was in his mid-twenties at the time the series aired.

But that’s not why he’s included on this blog. At 41 years old today, he is openly gay, married to male musician Blue Hamilton (m. 2015) and the father of two adopted children. In 2006, however Perez Hilton outed him, and Matt subsequently denied the allegations on Howard Stern’s show. It was not a convincing try, but understandable, since Kyle XY was aimed at a young audience on a "family" network. Matt did not come out publicly until 2013.

Matt’s career has encompassed music videos, many TV episode appearances and more than 26 films. It&#
