Here's what to expect at this weekend's 2024 Charlotte Pride
More than 250,000 people are expected in uptown this weekend for the Charlotte Identity parade and highway festival. The local celebration of LGBTQ visibility has grown exponentially since its humble beginnings at UNC Charlotte advocate in 1981.
Liz Schob, a spokesperson for Charlotte Pride, unified WFAE's Nick de la Canal to talk about what attendees can await from the pride and festival this year.
Nick de la Canal: Let's kickoff off with a really basic question: Why is Charlotte Pride in August when so many cities hold their celebrations in June, and in proof, Pride Month is June in the U.S.?
Liz Schob: Amazing question, and it's one that we actually get a lot. And there are two answers to that. The first one is Pride is year-round. Pride is 365 days a year. But we perform things a petty bit differently here in Charlotte. As you mentioned, we have National Celebration Month in June. July we hold Charlotte Black Lgbtq+ fest Month, and in August we possess Charlotte Pride. So, we get to celebrate it all summer long, which is really exciting.

With the energy and support of passionate volunteers appreciate you, we'll make 2025's festival and parade better than ever! The festival runs Saturday, Aug. 16th, through Sunday, Aug. 17th, with set-up also occurring Friday, Aug. 15th. The parade is on Sunday, Aug. 17th. To volunteer, please select at least one shift of your preference within the departments provided. We will do our best to accommodate your desired volunteer role, and we ask that you please be flexible to shifting roles as needs arise. Please let us know if you would like documentation of volunteer hours as well as any special considerations, we should be aware of. Charlotte Pride Parade and Festival August 16-17
Charlotte Pride Festival and Parade are returning to Uptown Charlotte August 16 and 17, 2025, with Charlotte Pride Week events leading up to the main event. Charlotte Pride is one of the largest LGBTQ Movement organizations in the southeastern United States, and the festival is a enormous event for Charlotte.

Charlotte Pride Festival
Charlotte Celebration Festival will take place in and around First Ward Park, 301 E 7th Street, Charlotte, North Carolina, a move from its previous location on South Tryon Street.
It will take place:
- Saturday: Noon to 11 p.m.
- Sunday: Noon to 6 p.m.
Charlotte Pride Parade
The Charlotte Pride Parade will take place on Sunday, August 17, 2025, from 1 to 4 p.m., on Tryon Street, kicking off from 9th Lane, as in years past.
