Gay names
Gay aversion to diminutive names?
Mister_Rik1
Just so this doesn’t sound like a complete generalization, permit me state that I’m referring to tendencies among male lover men with whom I have been acquainted over the years, as skillfully as among some gay characters I’ve seen in movies and TV shows, and certainly doesn’t apply to all English-speaking gay men everywhere.
Why do lgbtq+ men tend to shun short versions of given names? It seems that gay men opt for to go by their full given names, ala Michael, James, Robert, Emmanuel, Richard, Thomas, etc, whereas their linear peers will usually go by the shortened versions, ala Mike, Jim, Rob/Bob, Manny, Rick/Rich, Tom, etc. I’ve acknowledged two exceptions, both gay men who go by Jim or Jimmy rather than James.
I’ve also noticed that these same gay men will address direct male friends by their full given names, even when that straight partner ordinarily goes by the diminutive. For example, a confidant of mine who was called “Mike” by just about everybody was always called “Michael” by a gay friend.
Is there any significance to this? Is it a petite clue to recognize yourself to other gay men?

Full Names for Gay(e)
Any name starting with G- and having an A in there somewhere would work in my opinion, but it depends how strict you are with nicknames directly relating to the given name. Galilee/Galilea and Grace are more obvious due to the long AY sound, but Gabriela, Georgiana, Ginevra or Gisella could potentially work if you wanted them to.
I definitely think with Gay it needs to be a nickname for a longer full name, or used as a middle. Unfortunately, Gay, just like the once popular Dick, Woody, Pansy and Fanny, I feel is no longer usable today. Older people tend to pull off such names good due to most people comprehension that they were common and appropriate names back in the day, but today, on a child…no such luck. It once had such a beautiful delighted meaning…pity society went and effed that up with using it as an insult/homophobic slur (‘that’s/you’re so gay’).
My mother has gone by her middle name Gai her whole life (though is slowly starting to use her more unusual first more nowadays) and it never worried her. My older sister was given Gai as a middle too, and it doesn’t worry her so much, being in the middle, though she did earn the odd smarta

I don’t think a name can be gay. the only thing I can contemplate is that this person has known several Kierans who were gay and so that is the first thing they ponder. I once had someone tell me that [name_m]Bruce[/name_m] always makes them consider of a gay dude for the same reason. I don’t think this is really a reasonable descriptor for the trace a name gives you though because there is not one type of gay person, it’s not like saying that you think the name is frilly and fitting for a girly girl or that it feels sporty.

I would not get the opinion of someone who refers to things they dislike as “gay” one bit seriously; that’s really disgusting and bigoted, please don’t give this person the time of day. I think Kieran is lovely as is the combo, works fantastic with your first son’s name, and like all names would fit someone of any sexual orientation.

I’ll fourth(?) this. If they can’t give you any more reasoning for their opinion, their belief isn’t worth much anyway. Please don’t let this person and their oblivious opinion deter you fr
